Recruiting. Its Personal.
getting noticed
Our executive recruiting associates are frequently asked about the best way to get attention from a company they wish to work for.
If you are not using a recruiter (which is only about 10% effective), we would suggest that you contact someone directly at the target company. This someone should be in the area / department where your skills are best suited. Call this target early in the morning when the person has her / his first cup of coffee in the morning and is more open to take calls and not be interrupted in the normal course of business.
Explain that you will be contacting HR, but wanted to speak with someone directly in the company to find out the best way to get their foot in the door. This conversation can expand into many different ways including talking about your own background and getting your resume directly in front of the hiring manager.
With HR getting virtually hundreds of resumes / day, a person having direct contact with a company can lead to great opportunities. The advantage to you is that there will be very few people brave enough to try this honest and straight - forward approach.
